ANNOUNCING…The Boston Lawyers Group’s 2012 1L Diversity Clerkship Program. The deadline to apply is February 10, 2012.

The Boston Lawyers Group (BLG) announces its 2012 1L Diversity Clerkship Program for first-year law students*. Clerks will spend the first five weeks of the ten-week clerkship working in one of the BLG’s participating law firms or corporations five weeks. The second five weeks will be spent working in a government agencies legal department. Participating member organizations will determine the start date of the program, which is typically late May or early June.

STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
•1L Student Currently Attending an Accredited Law School
•Candidate can Demonstrate a Connection to Boston

Each participating BLG member organization will receive a package of applications for review and consideration on or about February 18, 2012. Employers will review the application pool and select 3 to 4 students to interview. The interview process can take several weeks and a decision may not be made until late March. The BLG will notify all applicants of their status by the end of the selection process.

Selected students will be paid a salary determined by the BLG participating member organizations. Typically five weeks are paid by the corporate law office or law firm while the five weeks with the government sector are unpaid.

Clerks will receive an attorney mentor for the duration of the Clerkship. In addition, they will participate in professional and social activities designed to highlight the benefits of practicing law and living in the progressive and dynamic city of Boston.

Applicants should submit the following items through simplicity under the documents tab (https://law-blg-csm.symplicity.com/students) no later than February 10, 2012:

1. Resume
2. A copy of your undergraduate and first semester law school transcripts.
3. A brief statement explaining how you will benefit from participating in the Clerkship, and what role you will play in the BLG’s mission to advance diversity in Boston’s legal community.

*Our members’ criterion focuses on deserving diverse students with preference to students with racial and ethnic backgrounds that have been historically underserved and under represented in the legal profession with strong ties to Boston. This criteria is in accordance with our mission to create a pipeline of talent, so that our members can “identify, recruit, advance and retain diverse attorneys” in the greater Boston legal community.
